Things to do with kids: Fun Things for Kids and Families to Do in Boston for Easter Weekend - 4/7 to 4/8

With two big holidays just around the corner, Boston is buzzing with bunnies, Easter egg hunts, and Passover preparations. There is still time for kids to see the Easter Bunny around town and take part in some really big Easter Egg hunts. Plus, we have some great ideas for ways to fill your Easter baskets and Easter eggs to celebrate at home.

If you’re still trying to figure out what to do with the kids during April Vacation Week in and around Boston, take a look at these terrific workshops, camps and programs. And be sure to check in on our calendar as we’re continually updating it with other special vacation events.

Here’s wishing everyone a great weekend. Read on for some of our suggestions of things to do. Enjoy!

Big Apple Circus: Dream Big - City Hall Plaza, Boston
Through May 13

Circus artists perform under an intimate Big Top, and no seat is more than 50 feet from the ring! This year’s show features a juggler with a suit to fit his sweet feats of fancy handiwork; a mechanical doll who comes alive in a sinuous balancing act; spirited horses, frolicsome dogs, and a capybara; acrobats, comical conjurors, and trapeze flyers. Tickets $15-$65

Read our review of the Big Apple Circus Dream Big show for some of the highlights and some tips to know before you go.

Peter and the Wolf - Puppet Showplace Theatre, Brookline
Thursday 4/5 - Saturday 4/7

Based on the original Russian Folktale, National Marionette Theatre’s version of the story features the beautiful music from Prokofiev’s orchestral score combined with stunning scenery and hand crafted marionettes. $10

Bunny Bonanzoo - Stone Zoo, Stoneham
Saturday 4/7

Hop on down the bunny trail to Stone Zoo where an Easter celebration awaits! Children’s activities include a scavenger hunt, crafts, opportunities to meet the zookeepers, story time with Big Joe and other fun surprises.

While at the Zoo, families can visit with a special guest, the Easter Bunny, who is available for photographs. Guests may take photos with the Easter Bunny with their own camera. Free with admission; suggested photo donation $5; all proceeds to benefit Stone Zoo.

The Airborne Comedians - Regent Theatre, Arlington
Saturday, 4/7

The Airborne Comedians are two performers who’ve traveled the globe performing their high energy, unorthodox comedy juggling show to the delight of all ages. Adults $10; Children $8

Rabbits and Bunnies and Hares, Oh, My! - Boston Nature Center, Mattapan
Saturday, 4/7

Rabbits are the most common mammal in Massachusetts, but how much do your kids know about these fuzzy little creatures? Find out the difference between a rabbit and hare, why they have such big ears and feet, and what they like to chow down on besides carrots. Explore the meadow and forest looking for tracks and signs, play some rabbit games, and learn some of the weird habits of the rabbit. Adults Free; Children $5-$7; Family maximum $10-$14

Paul Revere Capture Ceremony - Minute Man National Historic Park, Lincoln
Saturday 4/7

The Lincoln Minute Men and the Town of Lincoln, joined by other reenactment units, observe the historic capture of Paul Revere with fife and drum music and a musket fire salute. FREE

FINAL NOTES

Silhouettes at the USS Constitution Museum - Charlestown Navy Yard
Tuesday 4/17 & Wednesday 4/18

Create a lasting memory and take home a portrait silhouette hand cut by Carol Lebeaux, local silhouette artist. Sign up for a ten minute slot between 10am and 4pm to sit for Carol as she free-hand cuts a likeness of your profile in paper! Call 617- 426 -1812 x146 or email museumlearning@ussconstitutionmuseum.org to sign up.

These graceful portraits were popular with sailors as mementos of their loved ones left at home. While captains and officers could afford to take hand painted miniatures of their wives and children to sea, sailors brought the more affordable paper silhouette along with them.

Silhouettes are $33. Duplicate copies are $12. Mats and classic oval frames are also available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds go to support education programs at the USS Constitution Museum.
