There’s plenty going on this weekend, from free movies at the Museum of Science and maple sugaring tours in Milton and Natick to the opening of Brundibar and But the Giraffe! in Cambridge and Honk! in Concord. Brundibar and But the Giraffe! - Central Square Theater, Cambridge

To care for their ailing mother, two children must buy milk. Penniless, they sing in the marketplace to raise money. However, evil organ grinder Brundibar has other plans. A fairytale opera for the entire family, Brundibar celebrates the triumph of the helpless over tyranny and the transformative power of art. Originally performed by children at the Terezin concentration camp, Brundibar was adapted by Pulitzer Prize Winner Tony Kushner. Performance includes his companion piece, But the Giraffe! Produced by the Underground Railroad.


Honk! - Concord Youth Theatre, Concord

The story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry Cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his journey he not only discovers his true beauty but finds love and acceptance in all its forms. Presented by Concord Youth Theatre.


Ben Rudnick and Friends Concert and Family Works - TICO, Boston

FREE admission. Free coffee, tea and juice. Brunch is DELICIOUS and available for a fee.

  • Good tunes and doing good in one morning! Join Ben Rudnick and Friends, Catching Joy and Birthday Wishes, an organization that brings birthday parties to homeless children.
  • Family Works! Project, from 10am-11am: Bedtime art craft. We will collect: board books, toddler gifts, board games, wrapping paper, Red Sox shirts and hats.

Music starts at 11am: Enjoy a concert by Ben Rudnick & Friends Concert. TICO Brunch is available (fee applies). Brunch is really, really good.


Margot Fox Family Fun Show - Regent Theatre, Arlington

Families can join Margot Fox for some family-friendly, folk-rock music. Kids dance and wiggle to her tunes (old and new) as they shake off the cold and look towards spring.


Elska - Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline

During a performance that is a blend of theater, storytelling, and music, Elska whisks away children and families on a musical tour of her Arctic home and introduces them to the island’s wonderful inhabitants.


Maple Syrup Boildown - Somerville Community Growing Center

Visitors watch and learn as sap from local maple trees is boiled down into pure maple syrup over a warm fire. Enjoy syrup-tasting, kids’ activities, tapping demonstrations, live music by local band The Pennies, and more! Waffles, syrup, hot cocoa and T-shirts are on sale, plus a table for seed order pickup from the Growing Center’s Seed Sale fundraiser.


Maple Sugar Festival - Brookwood Farm, Blue Hills Reservation, Milton

It's sugarin' time in the Blue Hills! Watch as maple syrup is made in the traditional way. Smell the wood smoke as you watch clouds of steam rise from the bubbling sap. Savor the taste of real maple syrup. No registration required.


Maple Magic Day - Natick Community Organic Farm, Natick

Farm visitors can go on a maple sugaring tour and learn about Native American and Colonial sugaring techniques while experiencing how the Farm sugars today.

Know Orchestra’s shows for children emphasize active participation and audience engagement. Child-friendly musical content include train music and the story of Ratty the Musical Rat. Audience members help the ensemble count the meter of a waltz, speak words in rhythm, and move in different ways to music. They leave with a better understanding of orchestral instruments.


Plymouth Phil Family Concert - Memorial Hall, Plymouth

The afternoon begins with a hands-on instrument demonstration, followed by a concert by the Plymouth Philharmonic and featuring the Plymouth Children’s Chorus. Donations of non-perishable food items to benefit the Food Warehouse of Greater Plymouth appreciated.
