Guide to Diggerland USA: A Construction Theme Park for Kids & Families

2/5/24 - By Jaime Wisz

If your kids are obsessed with trucks, diggers, and all things construction as mine are, then Diggerland USA in West Berlin, New Jersey, is a must-visit! This unique construction-themed amusement park is a child's dream come true, offering hands-on experiences with real machinery in a safe and fun environment. Designed for little builders ages 2 and up, Diggerland provides an unforgettable day of adventure for the whole family.

My 2-year-old son and I recently visited Diggerland USA, one of the unique amusement parks in New Jersey and had an absolute blast! If you're searching for a one-of-a-kind alternative to traditional amusement parks this summer, a trip to Diggerland is definitely in order.

Diggerland Rides and Attractions: What to Expect

Diggerland USA is set up like a kid-friendly construction site. As you explore the park, you'll spot your favorite trucks and, more often than not, you can climb right in to get a feel for them.

What ages are best for Diggerland?

The rides and attractions at Diggerland cater to children of various ages and sizes. Many can be enjoyed with adult assistance if a child doesn't meet the solo height requirement. However, it's important to note: children under 36" may not go on rides, even with an adult. Their admission is free, but their participation is limited primarily to the playground and arcade. If possible, it's probably a good idea to leave the really little ones at home to maximize everyone's enjoyment.

Diggerland is perfectly laid out for families with young children. It's not too big and not too small, making it easy to navigate with minimal walking between each ride. If you're up for it, you could easily experience all 17 rides! On our visit, we managed about eight (it was a hot day with limited shade).

Hands-On Fun for All Ages:

  • Mini Diggers: Forget plastic shovels—kids can scoop up huge piles of dirt with these real mini excavators!

  • Operation Battle Truck: My son's absolute favorite ride and the closest thing to a monster truck! Passengers ride on the back of an enormous, five-ton military vehicle for a thrilling spin on a large, bumpy dirt path. We rode it three times despite the growing line!

  • Argo Off Road: An exciting off-road adventure.

  • Skid Steers: Learn to operate these versatile machines.

  • Dumper Trucks: Take a ride in a real dumper!

  • Ground Shuttle: Scoots its passengers 25 degrees in all directions while 6½ feet off the ground.

  • Excavator Express: A fun train ride with an excavation theme.

  • Turnpike Tractors: Enjoy a leisurely ride on a tractor.

Most of these rides allow riders 36" and up with an adult. To ride alone, some require a minimum height of 42" or 52"

Thrill Rides for Bigger Kids (and Adults!):

For bigger kids (42" and sometimes 52" and over), Diggerland offers a whole slew of other adrenaline-pumping attractions:

  • Spin Dizzy: A high-flying spinning ride.

  • Sky Shuttle: A telehandler that lifts guests more than 50 feet into the air for incredible views.

  • The Greased Beast: Diggerland's newest attraction (as of 2018), this ride takes place in the rear of a steel demolition trailer, lifting passengers over 34 feet into the air before simulating a dump of its cargo.

  • Four-Story Ropes Course: Challenge yourself with this adventurous course.

  • 32-Foot Rock-Climbing Wall: Test your climbing skills.

In short, there's something for all the daredevils in your family!

Food at Diggerland

Diggerland USA does not allow outside food or beverages in the park, but it does offer a variety of food choices at both a full-service cafe, The Lunch Pailand a concession stand, The Munch Box. If you want to bring your own food, there is a limited amount of picnic space outside the gates of Diggerland.

The only exit at Diggerland is through the gift shop, naturally, where you will find a variety of trucks, t-shirts, candy, and more. We left with a t-shirt, a new truck, and a little bit of candy.

Head to West Berlin for the Weekend

Depending on where you’re coming from, a trip to Diggerland is a bit more than a day trip. Next time we head down for a visit we will definitely be taking advantage of the surrounding attractions, like the Camden Aquarium and the Jersey Shore
