February Vacation Week 2014 - Classes and Camps for Boston Kids
Has the MLK holiday gotten you thinking about how quickly February Vacation Week is coming up? Luckily, fun and enriching programs abound during the break. I've rounded up some terrific vacation week programs for creative kids who like to craft, draw, create virtual worlds, sing and dance - and kids who love nature, too. Read on for my picks, from learning about modern architecture at Einstein's Workshop to creating museum creatures at the MFA.

Watertown Children's Theater/Arsenal Arts
It's summer camp time! No, really. At Arsenal Center for the Arts, February vacation week is all about Campfires, Cabins And Canoes – Summer Camp In February. Students will make camp crafts and earth-friendly art in the mornings and explore the performing arts in the afternoons, with a showcase for family and friends at the end of the week. Half-day options are available.
Museum of Fine Arts
Got a kid who loves animals and mythical creatures? This February Vacation Week, The Museum of Fine Arts is offering a four-day afternoon workshop, Creatures of the MFA/Museum Menagerie. Students get to explore the world in the museum's galleries as they search for creatures that are representative of specific cultures. Then they head to the studio to create their own creatures of the MFA. Supervised lunch and late pickup are available for parents who need to extend the afternoon.
New School of Music
During the Sounds and Stories of Nature program at the New School of Music, participants sing, dance, listen and play instruments to retell stories from classic children's books and learn about habitats, animals and weather.
Einstein's Workshop
Get to know creative/maker space Einstein's Workshop during vacation week. Among the offerings is a Minecraft Modern Architecture class, where kids learn about and play Minecraft each day (no experience necessary). During the class, they start by building their very own houses, then branch out to other modern wonders like Faneuil Hall and Fenway Park, or whatever modern structures they choose. Einstein's Workshop is also offering game programming with Scratch, LEGO robotics, and high-tech art during February vacation. (Sounds awesome - sign me up!)
New Art Center
Kids can head to New Art Center in Newton for a wild and woolly adventure in the Wild West. It's four days of cowboys, cowgirls, and sheriffs as students participate in drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, performing arts and ceramics classes.
