1/4/15 - By Kip Wilson Rechea

We're kicking off 2015 with a new feature to help you enjoy even more fun activities with your kids. Starting this week, every Monday we'll share weekday activity picks to enjoy Monday through Friday in addition to our weekend events round-ups. We're also adding an additional newsletter so our subscribers will get the new weekday events right in their in-box Monday mornings. Not a subscriber? Sign up now!

With many people heading back to work or school this week, families might have to work a little harder to find bright spots in the dark winter days. Thankfully, there are some fantastic options for both outdoor and indoor activities to keep everyone busy.

If temperatures stay cold, skating at one of the outdoor rinks in the area could be the perfect activity to get the kids moving. Once there's some snow on the ground, snowshoeing at Gore Place is another way to enjoy the nip in the air. For those of you who prefer indoor fun, Planes: Fire & Rescue movie night or Bellydance Evolution's Alice in Wonderland could be just right for your family. Read on for our picks of the week, and find even more family activities on our events calendar.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

1. Planes: Fire & Rescue – Monday

The Connolly Branch of the Boston Public Library has a treat for families Monday evening. Parents and kids alike can ease back to a post-holiday week with a free showing of Planes: Fire & Rescue starting at 6:30pm. For those of you looking to get out of the house with babies or toddlers, try the Jeremy Lyons Sing-a-Long in Somerville.

2. ASD-Friendly Afternoon – Tuesday

Pre-registration is required for this free event for families of children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Harvard Coop is another great destination for everyone with their free Story Time at 11am.

3. Alice in Wonderland – Wednesday

Bellydance Evolutions' spin on the classic tale is sure to offer a unique performance. The show is family-friendly, but starts at 7:30pm, so it's best for those who don't mind being out late on a school night. If you're looking for something earlier in the day, take your preschooler to ARTfull Play or your Kindergartner to a free Kindergarten Yoga class.

4. Story Time – Thursday

The Make Way for Ducklings store offers its weekly story time at 10:30am. Also, if you're in the market for a preschool or private school, this is a busy day with various open houses and information sessions listed in our events calendar.

5. Puppet Pals – Friday

Families with preschoolers can enjoy Mr. Jonathan's free puppet show in Newton, or story time at The Elephant's Trunk or The Curious George Store.

Have a great week, and don't forget to check out the full events calendar!
